Housewarming Drive to help rising number of people and families with basic housing needs across the Lower Mainland - Vancouver, June 3, 2009
June 3, 2009, Vancouver. The Homestart Foundation, a front line agency that provides furniture to people who have been homeless, and Vancouver-based 1-800-RID-OF-IT Junk Removal, announced today that they are partnering to furnish three to five homes for those most in need in Vancouver during a time when the economy and ongoing lack of affordable housing are translating into heightened demand, especially from families with children.

1-800 RID-OF-IT presents Christmas in August: a week long initiative to raise donations and awareness for The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. The Food Bank is in desperate need of donations this summer as food donations are down 19% and cash donations are down 33% compared to last year. Without government funding, the Food Bank feeds up to 25,000 people every week, 41% of whom are children.
